CARTERTON
PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE MONTHLY MEETING HELD. LAST NIGHT. (‘•Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Carterton District Patriotic Committee was held in the A. and P. Society's rooms last evening. In the absence of the Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner) for whom an apology was received. Councillor F. Court, ■ chairman of the South County Council, presided. There were also present Mesdames N. Boyne, R. J. Grimmer, H. E. Grdish. E. I'. Beaven, Miss O. W. Wolters. Messrs A. E. Hall. H. T. Ray, J. Steel, Geo Brown. J. H. Lawrence, L. Fairbrother, W. Martin. L. H. Smart, C. Jensen, C. E. White, W. Morris.
It was resolved that an appeal be made on Friday, September 6. for donations in cash or kind towards the soldiers Overseas Christmas Gifts, and that the Dairy Companies be advised accordingly. The services of the Boy Scout Troop were offered for the collection of waste metal.
Canvassers were appointed as under for the appeal on Friday, September 6: Mrs H. E. Ordish, Power Board Corner; Mrs N. Boyne, Holloway Street Corner; Messrs A. E. Hall and F. Court Carterton sale yards. Hockey, Carterton senior men will play Wesley at Masterton tomorrow and will be epresented by the following:—A. Ward, I. Mackie, S. Fisher, U. Sayer, M. Worsfold, D. Irwin, S. Ward, A. Fisher, D. Jackson, A. Sewell, V. Inder. Personal Items. Mr Robt Nunn, of Carterton, has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Public Hospital for treatment. Mr Len Eagle, of Eketahuna, was a visitor to Carterton yesterday.
Mr Thos Harp, of Carterton, has been appointed sole teacher at the Kaikiriki School. ,< t-ootnaii. ?The following is the Carterton senior LPteam to play Masterton tomorrow for • the Redmond Cup:—C. Jensen, E. Thompson, G. Brown, A. Reading, A. Mahupuka. F. Fitzgerald, J. Tilyard, D. Smith, J. Fitzgerald. N. McPhee, H. Matheson. T. Geange, A. Matheson, A. Blake, V. Inder, D. Taylor. Badminton. The following players will represent the Carterton Badminton Cub in a match against ’Red Star at Masterton on Saturday evening, commencing at 7 o’clock—Miss B. Peters, Mrs J. E. Dwane, Misses T. Pauling and R. Hopkins. Messrs J. E. Dwane, M. W. Worsfold, D. L. Taverner, and G. Reynolds. Cars will leave the Post Office at 6.30 p.m. Church Service. Church of England service will be conducted at Ponatahi on Sunday next at 2 o’clock.
