DEATH IN EGYPT
PRIVATE M. C. TALBOT. RESULT OF ROAD ACCIDENT News was received in Masterton last night of the death, as the result of a rbad accident, of Private Michael | Charles Talbot, a member of the First Echelon and the eldest son of Mr and', Mrs A. G. Talbot, of Raglan Street, Masterton. The late Private Talbot, who was 27 years of age, was one of the first to volunteer for active service and he left New Zealand with the First Echelon. He was a well-known harrier and distance runner. For some years he was a member of the Masterton Harrier Club, of which he was club champion for about three years (193436), also club captain, and he was a member of the Wellington team at the New Zealand championships on two occasions. He also held the Wairarapa district five and 10 mile championships. Many good performances on the track also brought him into prominence, and in that connection he was a member of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club. When residing in Masterton he was employed by Mr P. Borthwick and upon taking up his residence in Wellington he was employed for a while at the Ford factory at the Hutt. He was at that time a member of the Hutt Valley Harrier Club. He was very popular and his many friends will learn with deep regret of his death under such unfortunate circumstances. The sympathy will likewise be extended to the bereaved relatives in their great loss.
