REGENT THEATRE. SATURDAY. Monday, Tuesday: “DAD RUDD, M.P..” featuring Bert Bailey. Fred McDonald. Barbara Weeks. Alec Kellaway, Yvonne East, and Connie Martyn. These days we can all do with a good laugh, and Dad and Dave are the boys who can give it to us—-especially when Dad gets mixed up in politics. Bert Bailey, of course, would be an asset anywhere. In his white whiskers and his rural clothes, he makes Dad Rudd into a beaming philosopher. The authors > have achieved some of their best moments in the scenes of the election campaign. Dad's rival steals a march by booking up all the available halls. Dad responds by bringing from Sydney a bevy of beautiful mannequins, who draw away the audience from the other candidate. The swiftmoving comedy, the dramatic action in the superb scenes of the flooding of the dam, and the well-knit story value cf Dad’s election fight, are all capped by Bert Bailey's speech at the end of the film. Overseas News items include thrilling views of Britain on guard and the heroes of our submarine service, an all-colour tour. “Peru,” and a most interesting study of steel and its uses. WEDNESDAY. Thursday, Friday: “GREEN HELL,” starring Douglas Fairbanks Junr., Joan Bennett, John Howard, George Bancroft, Alan Hale and George Sanders. Steamy South American jungle forms a background for fast action. The story centres round the adventures of a party of
whites in their search for Inca treasure, and of the troubles they encounter before, betting back to the comparative safety of civilisation. The men and one woman of the party find the treasure, but fate then takes a hand and they are attacked by disease, storms and, finally, by hostile Indians. Supporting subjects include the Cinesound News, “This England,” a glorious study of the old land and "Stranger Than Fiction,” the popular scries of unusual events all over the world.
SATURDAY. September 7: "THE GREAT VICTOR HERBERT,” the finest musical of all time set to me- . Indies of the famous composer of "Naughty Marietta,” and featuring the golden-voiced Allan Jones, the new soprano, Mary Martin, and an amazing discovery, Susanna Foster.

TONIGHT (Friday): Here’s exciting news: The Saint is back in town — and he has a double! ■'‘Mystery story fans and those who have followed the career of Simon Templar—otherwise The Saint—through his many devious adventures will find new thrills and new delights in this latest of “The Saint” pictures, in which the famous crime-buster is almost outdone by a daring criminal who is his exact physical double! George Sanders (Jack Favell of “Rebecca") again plays the role of The Saint in “THE SAINT’S DOUBLE TROUBLE" screening tonight as the State Theatre. TUESDAY NEXT (September 3): The newest adventures of the incomparable Oriental sleuth come to the screen in “CHARLIE CHAN IN PANAMA," the latest of the 20th Cen-tury-Fox thrillers, featuring Sidney Toler in the title role. Featured with him in the cast are Jean Rogers, Lionel Atwill, Mary Nash, Sen Yung, Kane Richmond, Chris-Pin Martin, Lionel Royce, Helen Ericson and Jack La Rue. The film shows Chan on the trail of a devilish plot to sabotage the Panama Canal. A request revival of one of the most laughable and enjoyable pieces of entertainment ever to reach the screen. Set against the background of a Metropolitan opera house, the Marx Bros, introduce some of their cleverest and most laugh-provoking clowning. "THE BOHEMIAN GIRL," starring Laurel and Hardy, Jacqueline Wells, Antonio Moreno and Mae Busch at their best. In this picture Laurel and Hardy are a couple of Vagabond Lovers. It’s the gipsy in them that makes these beloved clowns turn vagabond lovers. There's trouble ahead for them in their most hilarious comedy.
