GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS THE FINALS REACHED. (“Times-Age” Special.) With perfect weather conditions and the greens and fairways in excellent order the semi-finals of the championships were played over the weekend combined with the rounds for the handicap cup. R. Weston beat E. Nitz and M. Paku defeated N. Kummer for the men’s championship and in the ladies’ round Mrs Nitz beat Mrs Schofield. Next playing day the finals will be decided, the men playing over 36 holes and the ladies over a 27 hole course. The best card handed in for the ladies’ handicap cup was that of Mrs J. Bannister, who. after playing extraordinary' golf netted 50. For the men Turvey again got below bogey with 63. I Successful Dance. A very successful and enjoyable dance was held in the local hall, the object being to raise funds to liquidate a debt incurred through renovating a card room adjoining the hall. Next Saturday night it has been decided to hold a ping pong tournament to raise further funds for the same purpose, and it is anticipated that it will be well supported. There will be three tables for table tennis up' till 10.30 and then the rest of the evening will be devoted to- dancing. Golf Ball. The golf ball will take place on September 7. The proceeds will be donated to some patriotic cause yet to be decided on.
