GREYTOWN
PATRIOTIC DANCE BRIGADE STARS PRESENTED. (‘■Times-Age” Special.) The Grey town Town Hall was packed on Monday night when the FireBrigade and Kia Tora girls held t. combined dance in aid of the Mayor’s Patriotic Fund. A large party of officers and N.C.O's. from Tauherenikau were guests at the gathering. Before supper the Superintendent of the Fire Brigade, Mr J. W. Wood, thanked all those who had assisted tc make the dance such a success. The Mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) presented Firemen E. Boyd and W. Gray with the United Fire Brigade Association’s Gold Star for 25 years’ service. Mr Horton expressed the thanks of the citizens to these two firemen who had given their services voluntarily for such a long period. In presenting Superintendent J. Wood with his silver bar, making 23 years’ service, Mr Horton said that he hoped 10 have the pleasure of presenting Mr Wood with his Gold Star in 2 years' time. Other honours presented were: —Secretary Carter, 2-year bar, making 16 years’ service; Fireman R. Murray, 2-year bar, making 17 years’ service; Fireman B. Workman, 2-year bar, making 7 years’ service; Fireman G. Gray, 3-year certificate; Fireman H. Gray, 3-year certificate.
The competitions held during the evening resulted: —Cake, Miss T. Bennett; sugar, Mrs Olliver; chocolates, Mr H. Gray.
Udy's Orchestra supplied the music and Messrs V. Boyd and D. Te Tau played extras. •
The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the Kai Tora Girls’ Club. Bowling Green. Good work has been done on the Greytown bowling green in prepara-: tion for the coming season. During the winter the green committee carried out many improvements to the surroundings. Personal Items. ’ Miss J. Haigh, who has been on a visit to Greytown, returned to Wellington today. Mr and Mrs V. Maguire, of Wellington, are visiting Greytown, and are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. C. Cook, East Street.
Miss Maureen O’Connor, of Karori, is spending a short holiday in Greytown as the guest of Mrs J. Kiernan, East Street.
Boy Scouts. The Greytown Boy Scouts will hold a book drive on Saturday.
