VISITING AMERICANS

ARRIVAL BY CLIPPER. ARRANGEMENTS FOR OFFICIAL WELCOME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 27. A party of seven of the passengers by the American Clipper, led by Mr Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney, will arrive on Thursday, according to advice received by Pan-American Airways' traffic manager nt Auckland. They will leave again by Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat on Monday and will catch the Empire boat to Darwin on September 7. The party for Auckland includes Messrs James van Norman, Edward McDonnell, Paul Patterson, Fletcher Eowran, Stephen Royce and Clem Randau. The rest of the clipper’s complement of 14 passengers will travel by yacht direct to Sydney from Noumea.

An official welcome to distinguished Americans due to reach Auckland aboard the American Clipper tomorrow will be tendered by the Minister of Lands, Mr Langstone, on behalf of the Government. a Wellington message states. The Minister will probably leave Wellington tonight.

After the official welcome at the airport, there will probably be a function at which the visitors will be the guests of the Government. The Minister will be accompanied by a senior officer of the Department of Internal Affairs.
