NAZI “BLOCKADE”
VAIN ATTEMPT TO SHOW RESULTS.
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, August 26.
Realising the necessity to justify to the world with some immediate result, however slight, the loudly proclaimed imposition of a total blockade on Britain, the effects of which are certainly not discernible here, the German propaganda machine made the surprising announcement from Bremen in English that the British tanker San Fernando and the freighter Zarian had been lost.
The facts are that the San Fernando was torpedoed and sunk by a U-boat in June, and a claim was made to this effect by the German High Command on July 8: The Zarian was attacked but not sunk early in July, and is at present safe in a British port.
