ALMOST COMPLETED
DISTRICT EMERGENCY SCHEME SETTING-UP OF COMMITTEES. PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES WELL ADVANCED. Arrangements for the local emergency precautions scheme are now well on the road to completion. At a meeting of the Masterton District Emergency Committee last night, over which the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presided. it was stated that it was hoped to report at the next meeting to be held on September 16. that the whole organisation as far as personnel of committees was concerned had been completed. Mr H. Mackenzie Douglas was appointed legal adviser of the committee. The question of providing ambulance stretchers and folding beds for use in emergency, available throughout the Wairarapa Hospital Board's area, was deferred pending the outcome of a conference of hospital board secretaries in the Wellington district.
It was decided to make application to the Hospital Board to provide two first aid cabinets, one to be placed in the Lansdowne School and the other in the Masterton Club, subject to the consent of the those in control of these buildings. Messrs C. R. Mabson and T. B. Clark reported on supplementing fire fighting facilities, a full report on which would be brought down to the next meeting of the committee. Stationery requirements, armlets and notices for use in an emergency were authorised to be purchased. It was agreed that the controller of each committee should select a number of suitable men to be co-opted to their respective committees and when this was completed, a list of their names was to be furnished to the executive secretary so as to complete the personnel of the whole organisation. Mr Jordan explained that the function of the Emergency Precautions scheme was part of the National Emergency Corps. It was desirable that suitable men should be enrolled upon the various committees where they could give the most efficient service. While there was nothing to prevent a member of an Emergency Precautions Committee from enrolling in thd Home Guard his duty rested with thc( Emergency Precautions scheme should that organisation be needed.
