BOMBER BROUGHT DOWN
IN ATTACK ON NETHERLANDS SHIP.
GOOD SHOOTING BY BRITISH GUNNERS.
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, August 26.
A Netherlands merchant ship shot down a German bomber which attacked it this morning off the east coast of England.
The enemy plane dropped some bombs and then flew low to machinegun the ship. British seamen manning the Lewis gun returned fire and the raider made off with smoke pouring from its tail. It fried to make height, but failed, and was then seen to crash into the sea.
This is the third occasion on which a Netherlands merchant ship has brought down an enemy plane while exercising her rights in accordance with international rules.
