ATTACKED BY BRITISH BOMBERS On the Outskirts of Berlin MANY RAIDS ON BRITAIN BEATEN BACK FURTHER DESTRUCTION OF GERMAN PLANES An Air Ministry communique transmitted by Daventry states that at least 37 enemy planes were destroyed in attacks on Britain yesterday. Fifteen British planes were lost but the pilots of six are safe. About noon yesterday forces of enemy bombers, escorted by fighters, appeared on the south-east coast and split into several parts. Some attacked a balloon barrage at Dover and others dropped bombs on Folkestone. Some buildings in the centre of the town were hit, but the casualties were few.

A large number of enemy bombers entered the Thames Estuary and the approaches to London. They were scattered by fighters and anti-aircraft gunfire. An attempt to raid Portsmouth met with no success. A small number of casualties, some fatal, were caused by bombs dropped in several country districts in the course of isolated attacks. Bombs were also dropped on the Scilly Isles but there were no casualties. The Eire Government Information Department states that a German bomber flew over Eire and bombs were dropped. Three people were killed. The Government has protested to the German Government and is claiming full reparation.

LORD BEAVERBROOK STATES THAT MORE FIGHTERS AND BOMBERS WERE PROVIDED FOR THE R.A.F. LAST WEEK THAN EVER BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF AVIATION.

An Air Ministry communique states that a number of aerodromes in enemy-occupied territory were bombed, In the Berlin area operations were hampered by the pool’ weather conditions, but selected military objectives were attacked on the outskirts of the capital.

A Sunderland flying-boat on patrol in the Tromso area sank two enemy flying boats at anchor and set fire to a third. The total number of enemy planes destroyed on Sunday was 55.
