Playing through an air raid warning under the protection of Hurricanes circling overhead, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force beat an Australian Imperial Force team by 66 runs in a one innings match. New Zealand scored 135 (Wareham 50. Tindill 23. Betts 15. Copeland 14). Australia scored 69 (Gillespie, South Canterbury, took three wickets for 6 inns: Barker, Taranaki, two for 12). The Australians included two inter-state and several other metropolitan first-grade players. A return match is being arranged.
