NEW ZEALANDERS DEFEAT AUSTRALIANS.
(From the Official War Correspondent with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in Britain). LONDON. August 24.
Playing through an air raid warning under the protection of Hurricanes circling overhead, the New Zealand Expeditionary Force beat an Australian Imperial Force team by 66 runs in a one innings match. New Zealand scored 135 (Wareham 50. Tindill 23. Betts 15. Copeland 14). Australia scored 69 (Gillespie, South Canterbury, took three wickets for 6 inns: Barker, Taranaki, two for 12). The Australians included two inter-state and several other metropolitan first-grade players. A return match is being arranged.
