GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES. (“Times-Age" Special.) The semi-finals of the Greytown Golf Club's championships were played under ideal conditions. The surprise of the day was the defeat of B. Kiernan by E. Maddison, who secured his win on the 18th green. There was never much difference between these players at any part of the game, ano the large gallery were kept in suspense right up to the last putt. The results were as follow: —Seniors: E. Maddison beat B. Kiernan, 1 up; J. C. Feast beat H. R. Feast, 3/1.

Intermediate: W. Pope beat G. Brunton, 4/2. Juniors: S. Shedden beat I. Te Whaiti, 3/1; G. Te Whaiti beat A. Stuart, 3/1. The following are the results of the handicap consolation competition:—S. Brice beat Ray Ingley; L. Mead beat A. G. Peterson; T. R. Ingley beat G. Montgomerie; E. Williams beat K. Nix; A. Lane beat T. Nelson; N. McLeod Beat W. Brown; T. Gold beat F. C. Bunny. On Saturday afternoon A. Lane turned on good golf to win the .captain’s trophy, he being 2 up on bogey after 18 holes. Other scores in the match were; —M. Bull, all square; K. Nix, all square; S. Shedden, 2 down; E. Williams, 6 down. The first round of the ladies’ championship was played on Saturday, afternoon under’ ideal conditions. The following are the results: — Senior: Mrs Thompson beat Miss B. Feast; Mrs Jury beat Miss E. Gregor; Mrs McPhee beat Mrs Gold; Miss Nix beat Mrs Maddison.

Intermediate: Miss Booth beat Miss B. Gregor (by default); Mrs R. Ingley beat Mrs G. Ingley; Mrs C. Ingley beat Miss P. Tully: Miss J. Feast beat Mrs Greger. Junior: Mrs Nicholson beat Miss E. Ingley (by default); Miss B. McPhee beat Miss A. Feast. Gold Stars to be Presented. With the assistance of the Kai T.ora girls, the Grey town Volunteer Fire Brigade will hold a dance in the Town Hall this evening. At 9 o'clock the Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, will present Firemen E. Boyd and W. Gray with the Association Gold Star, which is awarded for 25 years’ service. Udy’s Orchestra will supply the music. Visitors are expected from all the neighbouring Fire Brigades. The proceeds are to be given to the Mayor’s Patriotic Fund. Improvements at Cemetery. A start has been made with the construction of an ornamental fence in front of the Roman Catholic portion of the Greytown Cemetery. The work is being carried out by the borough staff.
