FROM MISSING TURAKINA

SILENCE SINCE ATTACK WAS REPORTED.

UPWARDS OF FIFTY PERSONS ON BOARD.

WELLINGTON, This Day. six days have now elapsed since a wireless message was ' received from the steamer Tnrakina reporting that she was being fired upon by a raider in the Tasman Sea. and nothing more has been heard of her. The Tnrakina has been overdue at a New Zealand port since last Wednesday evening.

Captain J. Laird, who commands the Tnrakina, has with him four deck officers and about 50 other members of the crew. The Tnrakina left an Australian port to load in New Zealand.

ENGLISH STUD HORSE

MAY HAVE BEEN ON SHIP.

Though no certainty exists, it is i thought that two horses sent from EngI land for residents in the Wanganui I district may have been shipped in the Tnrakina. which was attacked by a raider in the Tasman Sea. The five-year-old horse Golden Eagle which is being shipped to Mr Grogan. Westmere, for stud purposes, left England in July, and about the same time the English Derby winner Coronach, was shipped for Mr J. G. Alexander. Maxwell. Messrs Wright. Stephenson and Company. Limited. Wellington, have been advised by Mr John Donald. Westmere, that Coronach was not in the Tnrakina.

GERMAN CLAIM TURAKINA SUNK BY “SEA FORCES.” (Received This Day. 11.0 a.m.) BERLIN. August 24. The German High Command announced: “Our sea' forces sunk the Tnrakina in Australian waters.”
