On London and in Other Parts of England FIRE STARTED IN CITY AREA MANY RAIDING PLANES SHOT DOWN . There was no news of any air activity over Britain yesterday until the afternoon when it came with a bang', a Daventry broadcast states. Twenty-four Germans planes were shot down when trying - to cross the Dorset coast in the afternoon. The attempt failed and the enemy were driven oft. No bombs were dropped. Some bombs were dropped in South Wales and a number of other raiders were shot down, making 39 for the day. Bombs were also dropped on the Scilly Isles, one person being killed. Four British planes are missing - in yesterday’s air battles, but three of the pilots are safe. In Saturday’s battles 50 German machines were destroyed. The British losses were relatively high, 19 fighters being - lost, but the pilots of 12 are safe. Bombs caused a big - fire in the London city area and there was some damage in the suburbs, though it is stated that the total damage was very small indeed, and so were the casualties. The R.A.F. carried out widespread attacks on Germany on Saturday night, the targets including some in south-west Germany. Many aerodromes in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany were attacked. Two British planes are missing. Military objectives in Italy included targets at Milan and the Savoia aircraft works. All the British machines returned.
