CARTERTON
OBITUARY MR ALBERT HOOKER. (“Times-Age” Special.) News has been received in Carterton of the death of a very old settler of Carterton, in the person of Mr Albert Hooker. Deceased was a well known figure in Carterton for years. During the last few years of his life he had been an inmate of Buchanan Home, Greytown, where he died. His wife pre-deceased him some years ago. Pedigree Stock from Canada. Some time ago two enterprising pedigree stock breeders in . this district purchased a Fresian bull and a heifer from a breeder in Canada. The animals were released this week from quarantine and were sent on to their owners at Dalefield, the bull to Mr M. J. Parker and the heifer went to Mr K. G. Fairbrother's farm. Savage Club. Special preparations are being made for a Korero tonight in connection with the Carterton Savage Club. A first-class programme has been arranged. Borough Council. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening next. Among the business to be dealt with will be the appointment of an assessor for the borough. Bowling Green. Top-dressing has been carried out on the local bowling green during the past few days. The rain that has fallen during the night will have a very beneficial effect. When the season is officially opened the green should be in good order.
Lambing Season. The lambing percentage in the Carterton district appears to be very satisfactory this year. Twin lambs are numerous and the warm rain has been a big factor in assisting lambing ' operations. _____
