NO WORD OF TURAKINA
DUE IN NEW ZEALAND LAST WEDNESDAY ANNOUNCEMENT BY PRIME MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. “The steamer Turakina, which reported on Tuesday evening that she was being attacked and gunned by a raider in the Tasman Sea, is now overdue at a New Zealand port,” said -the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, in a statement issued late last night. “No further word has been received from the Turakina,” Mr Fraser continued. "She was due at a New Zealand port on the evening of Wednesday, but has not arrived.”
SEARCH FOR RAIDER ACTION IN AUSTRALIA. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Minister for the Navy officially announced last night that on Tuesday night a wireless message was received from the S.S. Turakina that she was being shelled by an enemy raider in the Tasman Sea. The message gave her position when attacked. Mr Cameron stated that steps to locate the raider were taken immediately by the Naval and Air Force authorities here, in co-operation with the New Zealand forces. A search is proceeding.
