WAIRARAPA HOSPITALS
MEETING OF BOARD
HELD AT MASTERTON TODAY. REPORTS FOR PAST MONTH. At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board held in the Board Room at the Masterton Hospital this morning, the Managing-Secre-tary, Mr Norman Lee, submitted a financial statement covering the period April 1, to July 31, 1940. For the period, maintenance expenditure was in excess of receipts by £1.137. There was a credit balance of £491 on the capital account. The proportionate amount of the Local Contributing Authorities levies was £15,758. Of that amount £13,583 had been received to date. Patients’ fees collections were practically the same as estimated and the aggregate collections were £4OOO greater than last year. So far as maintenance expenditure was concerned the proportion;! 1 estimate was, in nearly every case, below appropriations, but that was caused by works and services not being completed and would soon correct itself.
The medical superintendent of the Masterton Hospital, Dr. T. L. Parr, reported that the daily average occupied beds for the past month was 111.16. Sixty operations had been performed 107 X-ray examinations and 172 pathological examinations made, and 371 massage treatments had been given. One hundred and eighty-one recruits were X-rayed for the military authorities. The new portable X-ray plant was in use and was giving very satisfactory service. Miss M. F. Barnett. Matron of the Masterton Hospital, stated that the Women’s National Welfare League had continued its fortnightly visit to ths patients, being very much appreciated and the gifts made gave great pleasure to the recipients. The St. Vincent de Paul Society did similar work on alternate weeks. "We are most grateful to all these ladies for their kindness and thought for the patients of the hospital.” added Miss Barnett. Drs. Parr and Feltham gave 9 lectures each and Dr. Prior 6. The ambulance answered 17 calls during the month, covering 140 miles.
“During the month there were 56 patients admitted to Greytown Hospital, 51 were discharged and there were 3 deaths, leaving 26 patients remaining in hospital at July 31." reported Miss L. Higginson, Matron of Greytown Hospital. Forty-four operations had been performed. A total of 57 patients remained in the Huchanan wards. The wards had been very busy and a number of patients were waiting admission. The ambulance answered 9 calls covering 314 miles. The Masterton’s Women’s National Welfare League visited the Buchanan Wards on July 25, taking afternoon tea and entertaining the inmates with a concert.
Miss N. Ockenden, Matron of Pahiatua Hospital, reported that the daily average was 21.6. Twenty-five operations .- had been performed. The ambulance answered 7 calls covering 182 miles.
