Bequest Acknowledged.

The bequest of several handsomely bound books dealing with the Maori language, etc, by the late Dr Trimble was acknowledged with thanks at a meeting of the Masterton Borough Council last night.

Sheepworrying at Opaki. Last night two or three dogs, stated to be greyhounds, worried a number of sheep on the property of Mr R. F. Buick, Burnside, Mount Bruce. In addition to seriously injuring several ewes, fourteen lambs were killed. Y.M.C.A. Card Party. The fortnightly bridge and 500 card party will be held in the Y.M.C.A. Half tomorrow night, commencing at 7.30 o'clock when good prizes will be awarded to the winners and supper provided. These social gatherings are increasing in popularity and draw a large attendance on the Thursday night on which they are held. Woollen Mat Raffle.

The drawing of the woollen mat raffle which took place at the offices of the Returned Soldiers’ Association last evening was conducted by Senior-Ser-geant Doggett. The winning ticket was No 57373, held by R. A. Jackson. Fire Brigade Station. Carterton. The proceeds of the raffle amounted to £54 Ils 6d and the only expenses were the nrinting of the tickets. £3 13s 6d. leaving a net profit of £5O 18s which is being paid over to the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Fund. Residents’ Attitude Appreciated.

A good deal more inconvenience than was anticipated has been experienced by the residents along Rcnall Street due to these defects causing numerous hold-ups and the i patience and consideration shown by I these folks has been greatly appreci-l a ted.” !
