FARMER’S DEATH
VICTIM THROWN FROM HORSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAIHAPE, August 14. A verdict that the cause of death was a fracture of the base of the skull and other head injuries received as a result of being thrown from and kicked by a horse was returned by the district coroner. Mr E. Loader, at an inquest yesterday into the death of Eric Clayton Hammond, farm manager. Nerange Estate. Kawahatau, Mangaweka. .
He was found seriously injured at the foot of a gully at Nerange on Monday afternoon by Mr D. Wright, a farm hand. He was admitted to the Taihapq, Hospital on Monday evening and died yesterday morning.
Wright stated in evidence that the horse deceased was riding was very fresh and could not be trusted. It had not been ridden for three months. Hammond was a married man. aged 24, with two young children. He was well known and highly respected in the Rangitikei district.
