ACTION BY GOVERNMENT I APPRECIATED. I SHEEPOWNERS' UNION ; REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. August 14. Praise for the Government was included in the annual report of the Canterbury Sheepowners’ Union, presented to members today. Discussing contracts for the sale of New Zealand's meat and wool in. Britain. the report said: "Your executive wishes to express its appreciation of the good work done in the interests of producers of meat and wool by the Government when arranging contract! with Great Britain for the taking ove: of our wool and meat under the commandeer. It will be recognised that work of such magnitude required the closest application and energy by the Minister concerned and the heads of his department, and in this connection your executives wishes specialty ic thank Mr A. 11. Cockayne, who has carried very heavy responsibilities as controller of meat and wool under the terms of the contract with Great. Britain. As Director-General of Agriculture, he and his officers, following a policy as laid down by the Minister concerned, have given great service to producers of meat and wool for export, and your executive wishes to express, on behalf of members, gratitude to all those who have so ably assisted in the satisfactory carrying through of the sale of the first gear’s output, under war conditions.
