STUDY BY CANADIAN ECONOMIST. INTEREST IN NEW ZEALAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 14. Making a visit to Australia before returning to study taxation systems in Zealand. Professor J. M. Gilbert. Dean of the College of Social Science, at the University of Oregon, passed through Auckland by the Mariposa. Professor Gilbert expects to return next month and spend about three months in the Dominion. Professor Gilbert, who is a specialist in finance and taxation problems, plans to conduct research in Australia and New Zealand in the course of his extended leave. He said ho was acquainted with New Zealand taxation methods, but wished to examine them at first hand. He was specially interested in studying taxation on the unimproved values system. A. member of the University of Oregon staff for more than 30 years, Professor Gilbert has been economic adviser and a member of several com • missions inquiring into taxation.
