WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT GLADSTONE. The Gladstone Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting recently. Mrs Joblin presided over a good attendance of members. An amusing roll call. “The most embarrassing moment in my life” brought forth many hearty laughs. A round-the-wall competition was won by Mesdames Mills and Bradley. A collection of clothes for refugee children was made and a large parcel was made up. All members brought Peggy Squares to be made up into a rug, Mrs Smith offering to make up the rug. A competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs Bubb. Next month’s competitions will be: A knitted balaclava for any of the forces, and a bloom. Mrs Smith and helpers served afternoon tea. The meeting closed with the singing of the New Zealand Anthem.
