NAZI FAIRY TALES

ALLEGED DIFFERENCES IN BRITISH HIGH COMMAND OVER AIR DEFENCE TACTICS. BATTLE FIGURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day. 11.0 a.m.) LONDON, August 14. Germany intended her massproduced Messerschmitt fighters to keep Britain’s Spitfires and Hurricanes so busy that bombers would largely be unmolested, but the figures from the R.A.F. score sheet show that German losses of bombers and fighter-bombers were on Sunday 22, on Monday 30 and on Tuesday 64. German losses of fighters and other planes on Sunday were 44, on Monday 32, and on Tuesday 14. Simultaneously with this statement, the Associated Press of Great Britain Berlin correspondent states that it is reported by radio from Stockholm that British pursuit planes have been ordered to attack only German bombers and to withdraw on the appearance of German pursuit or destroyer planes. The announcer said: “This is Beaverbrook’s policy, expressed at a conference of the High Command, in order to save pursuit planes for an invasion.’’ The Berlin radio is alleging differences in the British Air Command. It affirms that Viscount Gort and other commanders have attacked Lord Beaverbrook for his insistence that the British fighter force must be spared, whereas Lord Gort urged more decisive activity by fighters.

ENEMY PLANES

NUMBERS PROBABLY DESTROYED.

MUCH GREATER THAN IN BRITISH LISTS.

(Received This Day, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, August 14.

It is authoritatively explained that the number of German planes probably destroyed or seriously damaged in recent air battles, although not claimed officially, actually exceeds the number listed as destroyed ,in official communiques from the Air Ministry.
