Damaging Attacks on Italian Aeroplane Factories SERIOUS DAMAGE DONE IN MILAN AND TURIN ALL ATTACKING CREWS SAFE HOME AGAIN Two of Italy’s main aircraft factories, the Capri works at Milan and the Fiat works at Turin, were bombed and seriously damaged by R.A.F. machines, which flew 1600 miles and twice crossed the Alps to reach their objective, Daventry reports. The Italian defences were taken completely by surprise. All the British machines returned except one, which made a forced landing' in the sea near the British coast. The crew were rescued. ROME REPORT Approach by Way of Switzerland Alleged PROTEST AGAINST BREACH OF NEUTRALITY (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) ROME, August 14. Enemy planes, coming from Switzerland, carried out a raid over northern Italy and dropped bombs and leaflets. Fifteen bombs were dropped on Turin. The Official News Agency states that the British pilots deliberately violated Swiss neutrality in this morning’s raids on Italv, entering Italy via Geneva and other Swiss points, and adds that the Swiss are investigating and intend to strongly protest.
