The Hon F. Jones. Minister of Defence. left Wellington for Christchurch last night. He will return to Wellington on Saturday morning.

Mr Peter Thorp Eckersley, M.P.. a noted cricketer, who captained Lancashire for a number of years, was killed on Tuesday, a London cablegram reports. He was a lieutenant in the air division of the R.N.V.R. The Hon W. E. Parry. Minister of internal Afi'airs. left Wellington for New Plymouth this morning to discuss with local bodies of the Taranaki district several aspects of the proposed amalgamation of the Waitara Harbour Board with the New Plymouth Harbour Board. On Saturday morning the Minister will open the Inglewood Centennial Memorial, subsequently returning to Wellington. The Hon W. Nash. Minister ,of Finance, who was to have left Wellington for Auckland last night to represent the Government at a reception to American newspapermen due to arrive by the pan-American clipper, will now leave by the Limited express tonight instead. The change in plans is due to .the delay of 24 hours in the arrival of the clipper at Auckland. Mr Nash expects to return to Wellington on Sunday.

The Very Rev Dean J. R. Holley, senior parish priest of Blenheim, attained the fiftieth anniversary of his profession in the Society of Mary today. The occasion was marked with Solemn High Mass, a presentation and other functions. About 15 priests from various parts of New Zealand are attending the celebrations. Dean Holley's charge of the Blenheim parish, covering three terms, extends over 20 years. He was also stationed in Wanganui. Timaru. and Napier. He was New Zealand Provincial of the Marist Order from 1916 to 1920. He was the second New 1 Zealander to reach his golden jubilee in membership of the order, the first: one being the late Dr D. Kennedy. Dean Holley's ordination as priest came two years after his profession in the Society of Mary.
