PERSONAL

Messrs Jensen, Christmas. C. Shearer (Wellington). A. McDonald (Martinborough) were guests at the Hotel Midland, recently.

Messrs F. L. J. Gromby, R. A. Bakalu H. S. Lawson, D. Caldwell (Wellington). R. W. Nalder (Lower Hutt), R. W. Lister (Palmerston North). R. V. Marshall (Trentham), were weekend guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton. Sir James Elliott has been unanimously re-elected chairman of the Wellington Centre of the St John Ambulance Association for the next 12 months. Messrs Charles Clabburn and J. W. Collins are to be invited to join the committee.

The funeral of the late Mrs E. S. Halfyard took place in Masterton on Saturday, the service being conducted by the Rev V. Joblin. Messrs L. Feirabond. B. W. Ackerman. W. Flaws, and W. Harrington, and Lance-Corp. N. F. Flaws and Private J. D. Ackerman were the pall-bearers. Lieutenant-Colonel A. D. Stitt D. 5.0., M.C.. who went overseas with the New Zealand Main Body in the Great War, is now in charge of a military district in Kenya. LieutenantColonel Stitt left with the Canterbury Regiment, and commanded the Ist Battalion at the encl of the war. He emigrated to Kenya in. 1920, and joined up there under General. Dickinson at the outbreak of the,present war. The death has occurred after a short illness, of Mr Matthew Stoddart Brown, who for about GO years had been a member of the legal profession of Christchurch. Mr Brown was born at Port Levy, and attended school in Lyttelton. He worked first with Mr Nalder, a solicitor in Lyttelton, and after a short time entered the office of Mr Wynn-Williams in Christchurch. He served there first as a clerk, but was later admitted to partnership. Mr M. J. Gresson joined the partnership in 1912. and on the death of Mr WynnW ill jams. Mr A. A. G. Reed was admitted to partnership. He was a leading figure in the Masonic fraternity, and was a Past District Grand Master.
