Miss Stewart, of Masterton, is a visitor to Hastings. Mr and Mrs J. Gemmell, Wellington, were weekend guests at the Prince of Wales Hotel. Masterton.

Mr and Mrs M. G. McDonald, Trantham, stayed ■at the Prince of Wales Hotel, Masterton, at the weekend. Mrs J. A. Wiltshire. Miramar, spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs A. G. Wiltshire, of McGregor Crescent, Masterton. who celebrated their silver wedding anniversary yesterday. The late Mrs Mary Gillespie, whose death occurred in Masterton last week, was a foundation member of the Masterton branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and among the many wreaths forwarded in connection with the funeral was one from the local branch.

The death has occurred of Mrs Jane O’Connor, aged 68. wife of Mr D. O’Connor, of Te Kowhai (Waikato). Mrs O'Connor was born on board the ship Auckland in the Bay of Biscay when it was on its way to New Zealand in 1872. After living in the Wairarapa for some years, she married Mr O'Connor, at Ngaruawahia. They resided at Thames and later at Ngaruawahia for a number of years. Mrs O'Connor had resided at Te Kowhai (or the past 30 years. She is survived by her husband, two sons and six daughters.

Mrs Emily Davies, widow of Mr Richard Davies, one of the early settlers of Paraparaumu. died in a Wellington private hospital on Saturday. aged 90 years. She was a member of a family of early Nelson pioneers, Mr and Mrs David Wootton, who arriver in the Fifeshire in February, 1841. Mrs Davies and her sister Maria (the late Mrs Isaac Clark) went to Wellington more than 70 years ago. The sisters were married at a double wedding in St Paul’s Pro-Cath-edral in February, 1877. When the Manawatu Railway Company offered for selection farm areas at Parapsraumu Mi’ and Mrs Davies secured a block. In 1901 Mr Davies died. Mrs Davies is survived by four daughters, Mrs R. Pink (Waikanae), Mrs Phillips (Feilding), Mrs Sharpe (Featherston) and Mrs Douglas Bryan (Karori), and two sons, John (Ohau) and William (Paraparaumu).
