RUBBER FOR CLOTHES
NEW AMERICAN MATERIAL. A new material called Pliofilm is being developed in America by rubber manufacturing interests. This new material is primarily to be marketed lor goods packages, but apparently is capable of being spun into threads arid cords that can be woven into fabrics, some of which are said to be suitable for clothing.
The material discovered in rubber research laboratories, has now been put through machines in ribbon lorin and merges in threads of varying thickness. This finished material is said to lie very tough, and when woven like yarn resists tearing in either direction. warp or weft. It has been used experimentally lor clothing, which was said to be cool and well ventilated. The threads make a fine or coarse textured fabric according to the thickness of the original spinning. The liner threads are suitable for eroehet work or weaving into smooth materials.
