GRAF SPEE WRECK
BRITISH NAVAL EXPERTS BUSY. MUCH VALUABLE MATERIAL SALVAGED. British naval experts are dismantling and salvaging valuable material from the scuttled German battleship. Admiral Graf Spee. according to reports received by the "New York Times" from Montevideo. The operations are closely guarded and all the workmen are sworn to secrecy.
The half sunk warship was sold to a Montevideo scrap dealer for £l.lOO last February, but there were repeated rumours that the wreck was purchased for British interests. The hulk has now broken in two. says the New York correspondent of the "Daily Mail.” and a recent storm toppled the fighting tower into the water.
Divers are reported to have discovered a huge quantity of unexploded shells in the forward magazine. Tons of brass, copper and armour plates made from a special alloy have been recovered, and it is possible that the Diesel motors', protected by rustproof steel, may be salvaged, as well as some of the guns.
