BRITISH OFFENSIVE
BOMBING & MINE=LAYING DOCKS & DEPOTS DAMAGED. ENEMY FIGHTER SHOT DOWN BY NAVAL PATROL. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) RUGBY, August 9. The Air Ministry announced tonight: “Bomber Command aircraft made daylight attacks yesterday on the aerodromes of Schipol and Valkenburg, near Maestricht. One of our aircraft has not returned. “An aircart of the Coastal Command, on patrol off Le Havre yesterday afternoon, shot down an enemy twin-en-gined fighter in flames. “Among military objectives in Germany bombed last night were the Hamburg Docks, supply depots at Hamm, Soest and Cologne and several enemy aerodromes. One of our aircraft is missing.
“Mine-laying by our aircraft, in enemy harbours and estuaries, which is a regular feature of our night operations, continues to cause serious damage to enemy shipping and to dislocate his coastal traffic.”
