GERMAN BOMBING RAIDS ON ENGLAND. LONDON, August 9. It is officially announced that enemy planes dropped isolated bombs near the Straits of Dover, Bristol Channel and north-western England, damaging several houses. Five bombs are reported to have fallen in the residential quarters of a Midland town. One house was demolished. There were a few casualties in all these areas, including several killed and seriously injured. A Junkers attempted to bomb a warship off the south-east coast but fled when anti-aircraft guns put up a heavy barrage.
