SOCIAL EVENING

PRESENTATIONS TO MEMBERS OF THIRD ECHELON.

A most enjoyable social was held in the Savage Club’s Rooms on Thursday night when friends and members of the Red Star football and cricket clubs met to make presentations to Private W. R. Newland and Lance Corporal M. Kjar. At the opening of the ceremonies those present, stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mr T. E. Denbee.

On making the presentation of a wristlet watch to Mr Newland, Mr P. Prescott, coach of the Red Star thirds, remarked on his keenness and popularity with the club, and hoped that it would not bo long before he was back with them once more.

Mr Newland in replying thanked those present, for their kind remarks and said each time he would look at the watch lie would be reminded of his association with the Red Star Club. One point he said he would like to stress was how fortunate the Star thirds were to have the services of Mr Prescott as their coach.

Mr AV. Peterson presented Mr Kjar with, a "hold all" kit on behalf of the Star cricketers and wished him good luck and a speedy return. Mr Kjar suitably replied. Musical honours were accorded the two men and the gathering closed with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
