HURRICANES IN GENERAL DOGFIGHT 4* HEAVY LOSSES INFLICTED ON ENEMY. TWO BRITISH FIGHTERS MISSING. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Dav. 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY. August 3. Twelve Hurricane pilots of the R.A.F. Fighter Command lived again, over the English Channel this morning. an engagement fought by the same squadron more than two months ago. in defence of the retreating B.E.F. Today, defending shipping, the Hurricane squadron engaged enemy divebombers, as well as their escorting fighters. They shot down six of the Junker 87's and three Messerschmitt 1 Oil's, also damaging others. Some of Germany's new Heinkel 113 fighters were in action. Like that over France the engagement quickly became a general dogfight, with each Hurricane pilot working on his own and attacking bombers and fighters as opportunity offered. Two of the British fighters are missing.
