PATRIOTIC FUNDS

OUTLINE OF POLICY NATIONAL i& PROVINCIAL AUTHORITIES. METHOD OF COLLECTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The future policy to be followed by the National Patriotic Fund Board and provincial patriotic councils regarding appeals for funds was outlined by Mr Hayden, secretary to the National Board. He said that unless extraordinary circumstances arose, the Board would not be undertaking further national appeals. The provincial councils would be making appeals direct for the entertainment of troops and other requirements in their districts and for the establishment of funds for the care of dependents and rehabilitation of men on their return to civil life. From the moneys the councils raised, they would also contribute to the National Patriotic Fund. All that was being done was to change the method of collection of funds in conformity with the decisions reached at a conference in Wellington. The National Fund would still operate, and in addition to continuing to provide the service it had hitherto for men in New Zealand and for men who went overseas, it was now called upon to provide social and recreation amenities for men in camp under the intensified Home Defence training programme. By supporting the provincial appeals, the public would be contributing to local requirements and also to the National Fund.
