SAFEGUARDING OF EASTERN SEABOARDS. POLICY OF IMMEDIATE (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) OTTAWA, August 5. The Minister of Defence, Mr Ralston. announced the immediate restrengthening of Canada’s eastern seaboard defences. He appointed MajorGeneral W. H. P. Elkins officer in command. including New Brunswick, Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island, the approaches to the St Lawrence and Newfoundland. Mr Ralston describes the eastern seaboards as Canada’s vulnerable area.
