SOLDIERS’ COMFORTS

QUOTA OF GIFT PARCELS FILLED. SOCKS & MITTENS WANTED. The secretary of the Wellington Provincial Patriotic Council advises that every zone within the Wellington Patriotic District has more than filled its quota of gift parcels. In consequence no further gift parcels are needed at present. The next effort will be the provision of Christmas parcels but the contents of these parcels has not yet been determined. 'Y,Mittens have been supplied to every man in Trentham Camp and all guard companies. There are still some Territorials to supply and renewals for men manning guns and anti-aircraft batteries. Socks are also in demand and knitters are asked to confine their efforts, until further notice, to socks and mittens. It is emphasised that wool issued through provincial patriotic organisations must be returned when knitted to the issuing body in order that the returns may be checked with the amount of wool issued and all knitted goods despatched to the central depot in Wellington, which arranges for the issue to troops. The provincial secretary realises that a tremendous amount of work must have been entailed throughout the province, principally by .women’s organisations in filling the quotas of gift parcels and on behalf of the Central Committee he desires to thank all who contributed to this gratifying result.
