GERMAN REFUGEE.
WINDOWS IN SHOP SMASHED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. August 5. Three large windows in a fruit and confectionary shop at Papakura belonging to Mr Edward Rothschild, a German refugee, were broken for the second time in a fortnight early this morning. It is thought the windows were smashed at about 12.50 a.m.. when several nearby residents heard a loud crash like falling glass. An iron bar 3ft 6in long, similar to the axle of a top-dresser, was picked up by the police. On the previous occasion on which the windows were broken, July 23, a similar piece of iron was found. Mr Rothschild is believed to have been in New Zealand for about 15 months, and he purchased the business about five months ago. The shop is at the corner of Great South Road and Averill Street. No goods were damaged and as far as is known nothing is missing.
