ROAD CYCLING
WAIRARAPA CLUB SATURDAY’S RACE. WON BY NEVILLE NORRIS. There were five starters in Saturday's event held by the Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club. The distance was 21 miles, the course being to the Royal Oak Hotel, Carterton. and return. starting and finishing at the Central School, in Queen Street. A new rider, Neville Norris, riding off the limit of 71 minutes made full use. of his handicap to win from his brother Norman Norris ( 5.30) by a short distance. J. Heaven (4 mins) caught G. Simpson (4.30), fairly early in the race, and these two riders almost succeeded in lifting the fastest time honours from K. Woollett, who was riding from scratch. The weather conditions were very good with practically no wind and a fairly fast time was recorded. Results: — Neville Norris (7.30), 1, Norman Norris (5.30), 2, J. Heaven (4 mins), 3. Fastest time honours: —K. Woollett (scr). 52.40, 1; J. Heaven, 53.5 2; G. Simpson, 53.36, 3.
