FIRE & EXPLOSION
IN RAILWAY WAGON. PRECAUTIONS TAKEN IN GOOD TIME. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A fire on a railway wagon was noticed as a train passed through Paraparattmu about midnight on Friday. Unsuccessful efforts were made at Waikanac to extinguish the flames and the wagon was shunted to a siding, those engaged anticipating the danger of tire explosion of an oxygen gas cylinder. The explosion occurred, but not before those concerned were at a safe distance. Windows in houses up to 200 yards away were broken and the noise was heard three or four miles away.
