REGENT THEATRE
“DESTRY RIDES AGAIN.” One of the most imposing casts of the season, headed by Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart, will be seen in Universal’s “Destry Rides Again,” which will be shown tonight at the Regent Theatre. Miss Dietrich in the role of a belle of the old west, and Stewart in the title role, appear with a host of important players including Charles Winninger, Mischa Auer, Brian Donlevy, Irene Hervey, Una Merkel, Allen Jenkins, Warren Hymer, Samuel S. Hinds, Billy Gilbert and many others. For her newest role, Miss Dietrich portrays a gusty frontier entertainer, a character that contrasts sharply with her recent screen appearances. She sings, dances, fights and makes love in typical western fashion, and she rolls her own cigarettes. James Stewart has the first outdoor role of his career and one that logically follows his outstanding performance in “Mr Smith Goes to Washington.” Joe Pasternak, the man responsible for all the Deanna Durbin and Gloria Jean successes, is the producer of “Destry Rides Again.” Beautifully photographed in superb outdoor settings of great beauty this production is everywhere known as the “smash hit of 1940.” Featurettes include the latest Air Mail News, a bright musical with many novelty numbers and a further tour with Lowell Thomas in his famous “Going Places” series. The plans are at Nimmo’s and the theatre.
