WAIRARAPA SEASON DRAWING TO A CLOSE. HASTWELLS AND CARTERTON WIN. The hockey season in Wairarapa is drawing to a close. Saturday's games produced many interesting displays of the code. The weather was fine, though the grounds were on the heavy side.. Results at a glance.— Senior Men. Hastwells 4, Dalefield 2. Carterton 9, Wesley 1. Junior Men. Wesley 9, Greytown 3. Old Boys 7, Dalefield 3. Third Grade Men. Carterton 3, Old Boys 2. Wesley 5, College B 0. College A 5, Scouts 1. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP HASTWELLS v DALEritLD. FAST GAME AT LANSDOWNE An interesting and fast games was played on Saturday between Hastwells and Dalefield at Lansdowne. Neither team was at full strength Dalefield being without the services of T. Hooper (forward) and G. Tildesley (goal). If these two players had been included. the scores may have been reversed. From the commencement Dalefield attacked and S. Gallon had a shot which went high and was deflected over the back line off the Hastwells’ goalie's - hand. This possibly saved a goal. A spell of fast play with a little too much hard hitting gave no advantage to either side until M. Ngatere had a shot but was penalised. Play then settled in Dalefield's circle and the defence was hard pressed, M. Knutson being prominent at this stage. Dalefield conceded a penalty corner, and M. Ngatere made no mistake with the opening goal. Even play followed until H. Worthington with a good solo run added another goal to Hastwells’ total. Shortly after M Ngatere went through with a solo run to score his second goal. Hastwells then swept down to Dalefield’s circle and a nice centre from Ngatere to Foster caught the Dalefield defence out of position. Foster having no difficulty in goaling. The spell ended 4-0 in favour of Hastwells. Dalefield commenced the second spell with determination and Hastwells had to concede two penalty corners in quick succession, but the defence kept Dalefield from scoring. A free hit near Hastwells circle by M. Knutson to S. Gallon enabled the latter to score with a good shot. Hastwells then had a turn at attacking, and a good shot by Ngatere was well saved by the young Dalefield goalie, who was playing a good game. From two penalty corners for breaches by Dalefield, Hastwells gained no advantage. Then the Dalefield forwards took play to the Hastwells’ half, and a splendid movement enabled M. Knutson to add to Dalefield's score. Hastwells then attacked and a bad obstruction by a Dalefield back against M. Ngatere gave Hastwells a penalty bully, but Dalefield cleared. Just before time Dalefield attacked and S. Gallon had a shot that just missed. The game ended Hastwells 4. Dalefield 2. Messrs Hqyne and Moor had control of the game. CARTERTON V. WESLEY A BIG SCORE. Carterton and Wesley met at Carterton, and the game resulted in an easy win for the home team. Wesley played three men short, which no doubt accounted for the big total registered against them, the final score being Carterton 9, Wesley 1. LADIES’ DIVISION REPRESENTATIVE TRIALS. No ladies competition games were played cn Saturday owing to the representative trials of both senior and junior being played.
