VALUE OF GREAT SURPLUS. MAY RELIEVE STARVATION IN EUROPE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) OTTAWA, August 1. Brigadier-General Crerar, in the House of Commons, agreed with the leader of the Conservative Party, Mr Hanson, that in spile of the huge wheat surplus not a single kernal should be destroyed. General Crerar prophesied that 250.000 Europeans would be short of food within a year. “When the war ends Europe will be starving and her agricultural life will be destroyed, requiring years to rebuild it,” he said. “Canada may be in a position to render a great humanitarian service to Europe.”
