MALTA UNSHAKEN
PEOPLE SHOWING FINE COURAGE. AN ADMIRAL’S TRIBUTE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 1. Paying a tribute to Malta in a broadcast speech tonight Admiral E. B. C. Dicken said, “The Navy have always had a very warm spot in their hearts for Malta. It is a place where most of us have spent a good deal of time during our services. Well, it’s having a bad time now, but its trials have brought a magnificent response from the Maltese inhabitants. Their bravery and confidence are splendid, and the Maltese air gunners have already had successes. “Though Malta is a small and densely populated island it is fortunate that underground shelters exist. They have received some hundred air raids up to the present, but they emerge unshaken from their caves and their morale remains high. Malta sets us a a very good example of courage.”
