NATIONAL PARTY
DECLARATION OF CONFIDENCE IN LEADER. The war situation, New Zealand’s war effort, and the organisation and control of that effort were among the subjects discussed at. a caucus of members of the Opposition held on Thursday. The representatives of the Opposition in the War Cabinet, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Hamilton, and Mr Coates (Kaipara). reported on the work being done by that Cabinet. The work of the session to date was also reviewed. A report recently published in some daily newspapers implying lack of unity in the formation of a War Cabinet, and stating that an attempt had been made to replace Mr Hamilton in the leadership of the party, was discussed and strongly and unanimously condemned as being entirely without foundation in fact. The caucus unanimously affirmed its previous decision to co-operate in the formation of a War Cabinet, and recorded its continued confidence in Mr Hamilton as Leader of the Opposition and of the National Party.
