WAIRARAPA UNION MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) , The fortnightly meeting of the com- . mittee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union ; was held in the P. and A. rooms. Car- . terton. last evening. Mr H. A. McPhee (president) presided and there were - also present Messrs E. B. Booth, S. Henson, V. Welch. K. G. Fairbrother. ; M. J. Parker. J. C. Scott and the Secrei tary (Mr E. McKenzie). Apologies for • absence were received from Messrs K. . Reid, F. Morton and C. A. Gray. The treasurer reported a credit bals anee at the Bank of New Zealand of £llO 12s 2d. and at the Post Office Sav- ■ ings Bank of £7 9s 9d. ; Accounts amounting to £2O 17s 4d were passed for payment. Correspondence was received from . the Carterton and Gladstone Clubs pro- - testing against the final senior championship game being played at Master- : ton. the Gladstone Club slating that the choice of grounds as between Carterton and Gladstone should be decided i by ballot. These letters were submitted I to the chairman and members of the Union by the secretary and the latter's : action in advising the clubs concerned that the Union had decided that the match should be played at Memorial Park, Masterton, was endorsed. The application of Messrs W. Martin . and Kennedy for the use of the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday : morning for a 7-a-side school tourney was granted. The secretary of the Wairarapa Schools Football Association wrote in regard to the assistance from the Wai rarapa Union for the annual schools tourney to be played at Wellington this year, stating that the Schools Association was cognisant of the fact that the Wairarapa Union was experiencing a lean time financially. In the circumstances the Schools Association was doing its utmost to help itself. It was resolved that the Schools Association be written to expressing appreciation of its efforts to assist itself. The Masterton third grade team was granted permission to play its annual fixture with the Lower Hutt third grade fifteen at Masterton, Mr Dawson was appointed referee. Mi’ S. Gilman. Masterton. was thanked for his donation of three guineas towards the Union funds. It was resolved that the Army Rugby team when it played Wairarapa at Masterton on Saturday week be billeted at the Empire Hotel. The Army team is to comprise 19 players with an Army officer as manager. The team will leave Wellington by train at 7.50 a.m. on August 10 and return to their quarters by the 8.35 a.m. rail car on Sunday August 11. The visitors will be entertained on Saturday evening. It was resolved that the curtain raiser to the Wairarapa-Army match be Carterton 111 v Red Star HI. The Referees’ Association is to be asked to appoint a referee. Mr K. Reid was appointed manager of the Wairarapa senior team and Mr W. Grantham referee for the match. It was decided that all games in the various grades be suspended on the day of Army-Wairarapa match. Gate charges for the WairarapaWellington match which is to be played at Carterton on August 17 were fixed at gate Is, stand Is. A curtain raiser is to be arranged. Lower grade games will be played as usual. In the event of there being a draw in the senior game Carterton v Gladstone tomorrow it was decided that the teams meet again at Memorial Park Masterton, on August 24. The following fixtures were arranged: Pearson Cup: August 3, Carterton v Martinborough; August 17, Featherston v winners of the game played tomorrow. Redmond Cup: First match on August 24; final match on August 31 on the holder's ground. The third grade competition is to close on August 17. College is to play Dalefield only if it has a bearing on the championship. In the fourth grade Martinborough is to play Masterton at Masterton tomorrow. < Corlet, of the Red Star fourth grade t team, was granted a transfer to Mas- I terton fourths. < The next meeting is to be held on 1 Thursday. August 15. <
