TIRAUMEA
FAREWELL SOCIAL (“Times-Age” Special.) On Tuesday night a social was held in 2 the Tiraumea Hall to farewell Mr and Mrs Fendall who are leaving the district. The gathering, which took the form of a card party and dance, was largely attended by the settlers of the district. | Mr P. Hay wished Mr and Mrs Fendall every happiness in their future home and bettei’ luck than , they had had in Tiraumea, pointing out that Mr and Mrs Fendall had just lost their home as the result of a fire. On behalf of the settlers Mrs Houlbrooke, Senr, presented Mr and Mrs Fendall with an afternoon tea service and desk ink stand as a slight token of the esteem in which they were held by the residents of the district. Mr Fendall in reply said that he had resided for 31 years in the district. He sincerely thanked the settlers for their gifts. The prizes in the card tourney were won by Miss G. Harman and Mr R. Houlbrooke. The consolation prizes went to Mrs Wallis and MrM. Spenser. Personal. Miss P. Duncan has returned to Tiraumea from the Pahiatua Hospital where she had undergone an operation for appendicitis. She is making a satisfactory recovery. Mrs P. M. Hislop is visiting Pahiatua. Private J. Trask was on leave from Trentham Camp during the weekend.
