FRENCH FLEET
DISPOSITION OF SHIPS. ACCORDING TO VICHY GOVERNMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) NEW YORK, August 1. The Vichy correspondent of the “New York Time's” states that the naval authorities claimed the disposition of the French fleet to be as follows: — In England: The battleships Faris and Courbet, one torpedo-boat, one dispatch-boat and several auxiliary vessels. At Alexandria (Egypt): The 10,000ton cruisers Suffren, Duquesne and Tourville, the 7000-ton cruiser Duguay Trouin, and the aircraft-carrier Bearn. At Cassablanca (Morocco): The battleship Jean Bart, the destroyer Mamcluk and the 2500-ton flotilla-leader Triomphant.
At Dakar (Senegal. West Africa): The battleship Richelieu. At Toulon (France): The destroyer Casque.
It was indicated that the battleship Bretagne and the escort ship Rigault de Gcnouilly. were the only ships sunk. The Provence (battleship), the Richelieu and the Strasbourg (battlecruiser) were slightly damaged. There was no information regarding the damage to (lie battle-cruiser Dunqlierque.
