NEW SOUTH WALES MINERS THREAT OF ANOTHER HOLD-UP. FEDERAL PRIME MINISTER INTERVIEWED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, July 31. The coal miners are disappointed with Judge Beeby’s award and have again threatened a hold-up. Two of their leaders, Messrs Nelson and Orr, today called on the Prime Minister in Sydney who was en route to Brisbane, and voiced their objections, the chief of which was to the Court’s failure to grant a 5 per cent increase in wages. They also submitted counter proposals for the Government's consideration in order to ensure continuity of work in the coalfields.
Mr Menzies had a general discussion with the miners’ officials on the question of co-operation in coal production in connection with the war effort. He assured them that their proposals would be given every consideration by the Federal Cabinet. Later he had a talk with representatives of the coal owners.
