Retaliation Said io Be Likely IF TOKIO GOVERNMENT FAILS TO COMPLY NINE PERSONS STILL HELD IN CUSTODY (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright;) LONDON, July 31. The “Daily Mail’s” diplomatic correspondent says Britain has demanded the release of the British subjects who have been arrested in Japan. The correspondent adds that retaliation is likely if Japan does not comply. It is reported from Tokio that two of those arrested, Mr Holden, president of the British Association at Kobe, and Mr F. M. Jonas, a lawyer, of Kobe, have been released. The spokesman of the Japanese Foreign Office, Mr Suma, indicated today that more British subjects are being taken into custody, ana he is reported as saying that all those who have been arrested so far are British. Four British subjects who had been arrested in Japan have been released, Daventry reports. There are still nine in custody.
