HOUSE TO ADJOURN
break of three weeks FROM TODAY PROVISION FOR EARLIER MEETING. SHOULD EMERGENCY ARISE. (By Telegraph—Frcs's Association.) WELLINGTON This Day. The House of Representatives is to adjourn today for three weeks, with the provision that if any serious situation arises members are to be called together immediately. This course was outlined by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, at the conclusion of the business of the House* last night. Mr Fraser said that the only business to be done today consisted of consideration of two Bills introduced last night, the Insurance Companies Bill and the Rural Housing Amendment Bill, and neither of these was likely to occupy the attention of the House for very long. He thought it would suit the convenience of members if the House adjourned today for three weeks, resuming on August .21. In the event of anything serious happening, however, the House could meet again without delay. Yesterday the House spent the afternoon in discussing the War Pensions Amendment Bill and the War Pensions Extension Bill, which were put through all stages and passed. There was general approval of these measures. Two new Bills were introduced at the beginning of the evening sitting—a Rural Housing Amendment Bill and an Insurance Companies Bill. The former measure makes several additions to the principal Act with a view to facilitating the administration of existing legislation. An extended discussion on the Broadcasting Account took place in the evening. An amendment suggesting a reduction in the radio licence fee was rejected by 37 votes to 17 and the House rose at 11.15 p.m. until this afternoon.
